New Kitchen Chemistry content

Just a note to let you know an experiment was added to the site. Find the so-called whoosh bottle under exothermic reactions. Have fun, but be careful!

There are lots of aspects of chemistry that can be drawn from this demonstration. It is a spectacular show of light and sound from a chemical reaction. It demonstrates the combustion process in a car engine, as it is the combustion of an intimate mixture of vapour and air. The process generates light from radicals that are formed in the combustion in excited states. The audible whoosh shows that expansion of gases is producing sound energy. If the bottle is allowed to cool, a sample of water that was produced in the reaction can be recovered. Last but not least it is obviously an exothermic reaction.

All in all a versatile demonstration.
